Description

Fothergilla is a sensational and easy-to-grow North American native flowering shrub that provides multi-season interest and sensory appeal in the landscape. ‘Legend of the Small’ is a more recent introduction that grows to maybe a third the size of the species, topping out at 2 to 3 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide, making it a perfect fit for smaller garden spaces or containers. In spring, it features abundant, sweetly fragrant, honey-scented, milk-white, bottlebrush-like inflorescences at the ends of every stem. Early-season beneficial pollinators will thank you for planting this one. After flowering, handsome leathery blue-green leaves clothe the stems, turning to bright shades of gold, orange, and red in fall. Easy to grow and adaptable: Legend of the Small will grow in full sun or shade and moist to wet soil.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing 2 to 3 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide, Legend of the Small Fothergilla is ideal as an accent specimen in smaller garden spaces and containers.
