Description

A super-hardy alternative to baby’s breath that blooms from early summer to frost, the Blue Cloud Calamint features abundant, soft lavender-blue flowers dotted with purple in airy clusters that are a favorite of butterflies and other beneficial pollinators. The cloud of flowers floats over a 12-inch tall by 18 to 24-inch wide mound of aromatic foliage with a delightful minty fragrance. Highly drought tolerant and very low maintenance when established, and suitable for the xeriscape and coastal gardens, Blue Cloud is an excellent border softener with a lovely, airy texture and low maintenance. It also thrives in containers.

Calamintha nepeta has household uses and has been used medicinally as a treatment for gastrointestinal disorders, depression, insomnia, and painful menses. That said, we’re not herbalists!…so make sure to do your own research before using this or any other plant for medicinal purposes.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Blue Cloud Calamint is ideal for use as an accent in smaller garden spaces or grouped or as a border in garden beds and along walks and paths. It is also a nice solo or mixed with other sun-loving plants in pots, planters, or other containers. Plant it near patios, decks, porches, and other outdoor living areas where the fragrance and the pretty flowers can be enjoyed up close. It is a natural choice for herb gardens and a fine addition to coastal areas, fragrance gardens, blue-theme gardens, and rock gardens.

Growing Preferences

Blue Cloud Calamint is easy to grow in moist or somewhat dry soil with average fertility and six or more hours of sunlight daily. It prefers a neutral to alkaline soil ranging between 7.0 to 8.0 on the pH scale, so add lime to acidic soils to sweeten them. Once established, it is highly drought tolerant but will flower best with occasional water during extended summer droughts. Avoid constantly soggy or wet soils.
